Welcome
It gives me great pleasure to invite you to participate in the 50th Annual Meeting of the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) and to welcome you to this landmark meeting of the Society.
The meeting will be held in The Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) in Glasgow from 25 to 28 September 2011. The SECC is Scotland’s premier national venue for conferences and has been voted the best conference centre in the UK for the last three years.
In the last 50 years, ESPE has increased dramatically in size and scope to become a leading international scientific community of paediatric endocrinologists whose collective goal is to promote the highest levels of knowledge, research, education and clinical practice of paediatric endocrinology and metabolism throughout the world. To mark this important stage in the development of our Society, the scientific theme will relate to ‘Evidence-based Paediatric Endocrinology – its strengths and limitations’. This will give the opportunity to look back at what we know scientifically, critically appraise the basis of that knowledge, to showcase current research, to look to the future as ESPE becomes an increasingly international forum for the exchange of high quality basic scientific and clinical information.
We expect more than 2,500 delegates from over 80 countries worldwide for this special anniversary. My colleagues and I are working hard to ensure the outstanding quality and success of this meeting, which celebrates an important milestone in ESPE’s development as a Society. The lectures, symposia and satellite sessions will provide a unique opportunity to share expertise and experience in paediatric endocrinology and diabetes from around the world. The facilities for sponsors and exhibitors at the SECC are second to none and are detailed elsewhere in this prospectus.
I look forward to welcoming you to Glasgow, a vibrant and stylish former European City of Culture, with some of the best shopping in the UK, and gateway to some of the finest unspoilt countryside in Europe, as well as Edinburgh, Scotland’s Capital. You can be assured of warm Scottish hospitality and an outstanding scientific programme in the UK’s best conference centre where the requirements of exhibitors can be fully met.
Welcome to Scotland for ESPE’s 50th Annual Meeting!
Prof. Chris Kelnar
